Schedule of Stipends

(Rates updated and applicable from 22nd October 2013)

As from the 1st July, 2002, a withholding of tax applies to Religious Practitioners including those supplying religious services. The Parish paying for the supply has the responsibility for withholding tax except when the payment is being made to a religious congregation, another Presbytery Account or the Priests’ Retirement Foundation. Refer to the Archbishop’s Advice to Parishes and Parish Priests on Implementation of PAYG Withholding, dated 15 May 2002.

1. A priest acting as full time resident supply: As a standard this stipend is tied to the approximate cash equivalent of the current minimum weekly stipend for priests in the Archdiocese. The payment is in addition to his maintenance in the Presbytery,

(a) When the supply priest provides his own car and pays for the petrol etc used in running the car: $555 per week

(b) When a car is provided for the supply priest and the cost of petrol etc is paid from the presbytery account: $375 per week

2. Priest supplying for ONE Sunday Mass: $125

3. Priest supplying for TWO Sunday Masses: $165

4. Priest supplying for THREE Sunday Masses: $200

5. Priest supplying for Vigil Mass and three Sunday Masses: N.B. Sunday Mass = Vigil Mass and Mass at any time on Sunday. $240

6. Priest supplying week-day Mass in Parish: $45 per day

7. Priest supplying week-day Mass in Convent etc. (other than the parish clergy in relation to the Convent where Sisters who are serving in the Parish reside: $45 per day.

8. Sacrament of Reconciliation: $50 per session
